A wonderful 2019 Cross-Country competition

22 May 2019

Boys do well at School cross country

The weather at the end of Term 1 forced the delay of the Year 1 to 6 Cross Country and the date was set for the First Friday of Term 2.  When the postponement date arrived, we were blessed with the perfect running weather with cool over cast conditions.

All the boys have been practicing their running during PE sessions with Mr Field and despite a late change in the Year 6 Track due to a tree falling over the zig zag track, they were prepped and ready to run their best race on the day.  Some even commented they enjoyed the new track that took them up into the bush.

Our new Wellesley marquee provided the perfect backdrop to watch the boys both start and finish the race on the main field, running through the Wellesley flags to the Marquee to finish.  It was wonderful to see so many parents there on the day supporting the boys at different spots around the track.

With the Year 6 boys starting off the day followed by Year 5 down to Year 1 all boys tried their best and gained personal wins on the day.  The competition was tough with some fantastic runners across all year groups.

It was particularly impressive to see boys who had completed their race standing on the side of the field cheering on their fellow class mates as well as boys in different year groups as they came onto the field and toward the finish line.

Some of the older boys ran alongside younger boys to keep them motivated along the race and our Year 1 boys were led right around the track to ensure the cross country was a both a motivating and positive experience for them.

The Leadership and comradery shown on the day was noted by all that were there.  It was fantastic to see the values of Wellesley being demonstrated by the boys.

Congratulations to the top 10 boys from each year group who ran very well and will now move on to represent Wellesley at the Zones Cross Country on Tuesday 28th May.  We are looking forward to seeing a strong team of runners taking on the challenge of running against other schools we are confident you will do the school proud.
