Highlights of 2011
2011 was very special for a number of reasons, including the significant progress made on the first part of Stage 4 of our building programme, allowing us to open our new library and classrooms for the 2012 year.
It was once again heart-warming to see the boys involved in a range of service activities. A record $9300 was raised for World Vision through the 40 Hour Famine project.
Our sports teams had very busy and successful seasons. The arts’ highlights were many and for the first time we had an ‘artist in residence’. Wayne Yule was a great success sparking the call for the ‘artist in residence’ programme to become a regular feature.
Our academic successes included:
Special congratulations to Dougal Colquhoun who came top in NZ for the ICAS Computer Studies Competition.
Lachlan Sim’s winning entry in the Wellington Regional Science and Technology Exhibition was just outstanding. (Treating Farm Effluent Using Osmosis)
Five Y8 boys have won scholarships to Independent Schools next year. (Four are taking them up) Sean Aitchison and Matt Wong won Academic Scholarships to Scots College and Benjamin Wolyncewicz a General Excellence Scholarship to Scots as well. Nic Brown has won a Boarding Scholarship to Wanganui Collegiate.
Two of our Tournament of the Minds problem solving teams were selected to represent NZ at the internation competition in Hobart, Australia.
Absolutely outstanding Maths results in national and international competitions. (e.g. Oliver Sutcliffe’s 100% in the Dunedin Problem Solving competition.
* Over a 150 boys sat the New Zealand Speech Board Assessment. 74 gained Distinction and another 74 gained highly commended awards.
