ARTBOURNE 2009 contemporary art exhibition featuring the work of prominent local and Eastbourne artists will for open for pre-view and sales on Thursday 29 October at 6.30pm at Wellesley. The exhibition will feature the excellent and varied work of many well known Wellington and Eastbourne artists and is set to be an exciting first for both the Eastern Bays and Wellesley. A $10 entry ticket to the opening will include a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles. Tickets can be bought at Wellesley or on the night. In addition a cash bar will be operating at the art exhibition opening. Eftpos will not be available.
Amongst some of the local artists exhibiting are Richard Ponder, Bill Burke, Jason Kelly, Annie Hayward, Jacs Henderson, Suzanne Hershell, Hilary Tipping, Stacey O’Neill, Jackie Pearson, Andrea Mae Miller, Allan Collins and Janet Andrews. Well known Wellington artists participating are amongst others, Tom Sladden, Basia Smolnicki, Paul Forrest, Gitte Eklund Short, Adel Eagleson, photographer Sandy Conon, sculptors Bruce Winter and Rebecca Rose, Shirley Milward, Barbara Brownlie Lyon and jewellers Beckie Bliss and Christine Nightingale. A couple of Wairarapa artists have joined the impressive line –up too: Liz Bondy, Lisa Matthys, Salvi Frika and Allison Hudson.
ARTBOURNE 2009 is a fundraiser for Wellesley and will be open for public viewing on Friday 30th October and Sunday 1st November (Gala day) from 10.30am – 3.00pm as well. Funds raised from the exhibition will be put towards an exciting redevelopment programme. Wellesley prides itself in laying the foundation for lifelong learning in the minds, bodies and spirits of all its boys. The arts (both visual and performing) play a critical role in encouraging and stimulating creativity and independent thought and are an integral part of our philosophy.
