The Wellesley Mathswell Team of Oliver Powell, Krishan Betty, Andy Su(Multi Choice) and Edward Wilson, Ryan Palmer, Alex Wierzbicki (Problem Solving) won this year’s Wellington Mathematics Association organised Mathswell Competition. 26 schools from the Wellington area were represented in the competition, with the Wellesley team winning for the first time in three years after coming third the last two years. It is a very hard competition to win and the efforts of this year’s team were particularly impressive, as the Multi Choice half of the team scored 29/30 and the Problem Solving boys scored an impressive 22/25. Many schools scored less than ten in this section. However the organiser realised overnight that she had made a mistake and Wellesley ran out winners by four points. The boys in the team worked very hard in preparing for this year’s competition and can be very pleased with their wonderful result.
Over the last decade or more, Wellesley has dominated this premier competition either winning or being a place getter. Congratulations to coach, Murray Blandford.
