Josh Rippin (Year 7) received 1st prize ($300) in Class 1 of the Niwa Regional Science Fair and was nominated for the national “Realise the Dream” competition.
After witnessing a crime himself, Josh took an interest in children’s ability reliability in being an eye witnesses. He set up an experiment testing two groups of boys with only one group receiving eye witness training . Through his testing and research, Josh came to the conclusion that training does have a considerable impact on the accuracy of children being reliable eye witnesses.
The ‘Realise the Dream’ competition is a national event which recognizes students who have carried out a piece of excellent research or innovative piece of work.
William Mercer won the Australasian Corrosion Association prize ($40) for his ‘Fruit Battery Power’ research, investigating making batteries out of a variety of materials.
