Sport, PE and Outdoor Adventure

Sport and outdoor pursuits channel energy, develop skills and provide a competitive focus. Boys choose the sports they want to participate in and are given ample coaching and other opportunities to achieve their potential.

We encourage students in ‘accepting challenges’ and we promote learning about ‘well-being’ in related activities. The experiences gained through outdoor education promote confidence, self-reliance, problem-solving and respect for self, others and the natural environment.

Right from Year 0, your son will be able to build key physical skills through weekly physical education sessions. From Year 4, a sports hour introduces students to a variety of games each week, designed to suit their age and development.

The sports offered at Wellesley include tennis, cricket, softball, water polo, flippaball, miniball, basketball, rugby, soccer, hockey, underwater hockey, touch rugby, table tennis, and options such as golf, rock climbing and ten pin bowling. Mid-week home and away fixtures with other schools always create a buzz of enthusiasm.

Athletic sports, cross-country running and swimming sports are key events in our annual calendar, with participation and effort encouraged through a traditional house point system.

Wellesley’s excellent sports facilities include astroturf tennis courts, which double as a hockey turf, sports field, quadrangles, gymnasium, table tennis room and swimming pool, as well as the adjacent Williams Park and Days Bay beach.

Our expansive grounds and beautiful location between the bush and the sea are ideal for outdoor adventures such as fishing, swimming, wharf jumping, tramping, camping, bushcraft, junior sleepovers, yachting, abseiling and kayaking.
